Burzum's music features characteristics common in Black Metal. But beeing inspired by legend, history and saga is one its especial and remarkable features. Hypnotic repetition is a shining feature of Burzum's muisic, as we can see it in its both Black Metal and Ambient albums.

Hvis Lyset Tar Oss - 4/5 and everything stays in the very Burzum-style of minimalism. Tomhet - 5/5 Also, I still can't tell why I like Burzum so much. I feel Varg (despite being the biggest dickhead alive) reaches for something a lot deeper than what metal (including the black stuff) is usually going for, but I can't tell how he does it/5.

The Ways of Yore is the eleventh studio album by Norwegian musical project Burzum, released on 2 June by sole member Varg Vikernes' label Byelobog Productions. The album retains the ambient and medieval music sound Vikernes started with Burzum's previous album, Sôl austan, Mâni vestan, albeit introducing bladeterrorzanntegal.infoinfo: Medieval, ambient.

In , when Satanel disbanded, Vikernes revived his solo project, changing the name to Burzum (which translates to "darkness" in J.R.R. Tolkien's Black Speech, which is spoken by orcs and other creatures of Mordor). Handling all instruments and vocals by himself, he recorded Burzum's first four full-length albums in a span of just over one year.

'Hvis lyset tar oss' was the album that saw Burzum hit its peak and is Varg Vikernes' first true masterpiece. Compared to the first couple of albums, Vikernes' conceptual ideas of Burzum seem to have fleshed out properly on 'Hvis lyset tar oss'.
