Nov 06,  · Mad Not Mad is more downbeat than the previous albums by Madness. "Yesterday's men hang to today to sing in the old-fashioned way it must get better in the long run". The album is quite musical and contemplative but everything is done in halftones. /5(8).

Nov 12,  · It exudes happiness and nostalgia, tinged with frustration, cynicism, and resentment at Barson's leaving (Mad Not Mad) and at Thatcherite Britain (Burning the Boats), ambivalence at dealing with pervasive American culture (Uncle Sam), the dirtiness of the music business treadmill (I'll Compete), but their are some brilliantly tender moments too /5(7).
